I honestly believe that access to health care is a right. If people could treat themselves at home for problems they have with their bodies, then I am pretty sure they would. What would be the point in going to school and learning all the theories and practices in health care? Can a person give them self a blood transfusion? Would they even know if they needed one? I don't think so. Besides if society felt like health care access was a privilege, then there wouldn't be to much advocacy out there for equal treatment in health care. There wouldn't be state and federal programs for low income families and minorities who can't afford health care. Basically, it would just be for the people who can afford it. Trust me with the price of just getting blood drawn, who could afford it. If it was a privilege a lot of people would be out of jobs, due to lack of Americans being unable to afford the cost. Therefore access to health care is a right not a privilege.

  1. I completely agree with you. There are places around the world that don't have people in dept b/c of medical bills!! There are ways to make it work for everyone so no one has to suffer!

  2. I agree with you, Health care is a right. Everyone, regardless of race, age, financial status should be able to go to a doctor when they are sick. Everyone should have access to some sort of healthcare. In Texas, we have the CHIP program for kids, Medicare and Medicaid for the elderly and poor. However, sometimes patients are left with a bill they can not afford to pay. It is sad when parents have to decide on food or taking one of their children to the doctor. Let's not forget that there are some people that need more than one pill a month, that can be very expensive. What about people who are mentally ill and can not afford their medicines. Do we want someone who is possibly borderline psychotic or schizophrenic wander the streets because they can not afford their medicines? What about people who become extremely aggressive without taking their medicines? There is a fix, but it lies with those who are making profits to make a major change occur. However, if someone is making good money, like doctors, the hospitals or drug companies are they likely to come on board with poor people and cut their own pay? More than likely no.

  3. Yes health care is a right but it is also a priviledge. Consider it a priviledge to be an American citizen and to even have access to health care. Even when it comes to being an American citizen, everyone cannot afford health care, and often times may not qualify for health care assistnace such as Medicaid. Therefore, the wealthy should consider it a privilegde to be able to afford health care. There are many people in the U.S. and developing countries who continue to suffer because they do not have the resoures or the money to recieve health care. Therefore, health care is very much a right and priviledge
