Blog #3

I answered yes to 4 out of the 10 questions in the self assessment. The last three. I really need to step up my preventive practices. Eventhough I am not considered to be unhealthy, I am not overall healthy. I can start to improve my health by eating more fruits and vegetables, cutting out junk food from my diet and exercising more. I can also practice meditation to help relieve stress and go for walks when I feel angry or upset. I can make time to give myself a relaxing hour or two. I can go spend a day at a spa once or twice a month to help me get the stress out of my body. I feel mentally healthy when I do school work and get good grades for it. I am married, so condom use for me is not important, unless I don't want anymore kids. I am a nonviolent person, and I look for constructive ways to deal with my anger. I like to ride bikes and love to go swimming. I plan on teaching my daughters when they are old enough. These are some of the preventive practices I already use. There are a lot more I can emplore. I will become more active once my daughter is born.

  1. I can see that you are heading in the right direction. We will eventually get their. It is hard having a family and going to school. We have to keep in mind if we don't take care of ourselves, no one else will!

  2. Congratulations on your baby. Unfortunately my excitement of being an aunt is gone because my sister in law lost her baby. She was about two months pregnant. The baby’s heart just stopped beating.

It is good to hear your are going to improve your eating habits, especially now that you are eating for two. Your baby needs healthy food. Exercise is very important, especially since the obesity problem is continuously growing. This is a great prevention method to avoid gaining unhealthy weight. I am not over weight, however I know I need to work on my eating habits and stick to my exercise routine I started. I am determined to stay focused and even join a gym since I can only use the school gym twice a week when I go on campus.

  3. Congratulations on your new baby. You are alot like me in the sense that we are trying to go to school and raise kids at the same time. I have 3 of my own and finding time to do anything is so difficult. The only time I have to work out is in the morning. I have a 1 year old and he tends to keep me pretty active as well. Much like you, I don't eat very many vegetables and fruit. They are so important so I am giving it a try. Multivitamins are great. I take one every morning and they give you all the nutritional vitamins you need to stay healthy. If you are taking prenatal vitamins now, those are much like the multivitamins. Good luck to you and your new baby!
